Why I Chose This Topic? - Tony Duong
My name is Tony Duong, and I am currently a sophomore at Kearny's Science, Connections, and Technology high school. I have always been fascinated with fires. Ever since I was a little kid, I always found interest in learning more about how they came to be, how they spread, and how they can be controlled. During my hooligan days, I played with fires a lot; comparing the spread of fires when they are put near flammable objects, how quickly they grew, etc. I even thought about pursuing the career of a firefighter at one point in my life.
Finding a topic for this project was extremely arduous. I had to go through several choices until I unexpectedly stumble upon this one; thus awakening my dormant passion for the flames. The reason why it was so hard to choose a topic was because I had topics that I had the data for, but it just wasn't interesting to me. Why put in the hard work and effort for something you simply don't care about? That is why I ended up choosing the impacts that wildfires & prescribed fires have on our ecosystems. My call of action is to spread my vast knowledge about this topic and motivate others to be aware about this ensuing environmental issue.
